Following a hugely successful US tour and a critically acclaimed recording, the Australian Chamber Orchestra bring you the Australian premiere of Winter Morning Walks, featuring four-time Grammy Award-winner Dawn Upshaw.
Commissioned specially for the ACO and Dawn Upshaw and featuring a trio of brilliantly versatile US jazz musicians, this touching new piece by fellow Grammy Award-winner Maria Schneider has been called “music to fall in love with the first time – then immediately want to hear again.” (NPR)
We match this Australian first with a flourish of Romantic string orchestra works – Elgar’s exhilarating Introduction and Allegro and Grieg’s enduringly popular Holberg Suite, which we intersperse with songs by Grieg and Rautavaara.

Reviews
Los Angeles Times: "One of the most consequential performers of our time."
NPR: "[Winter Morning Walks] is lyrical, flowing, intimately expressive, with all the elements of words, music, voice and instruments in a seamless blend, this is music to fall in love with the first time – then immediately want to hear again.”
Limelight Magazine: "[In Schneider's Winter Morning Walks], Upshaw's silver voice and clear diction are as crisp and precise as the sunlit frosty days she describes."
Los Angeles Times: "The exquisite purity of [Dawn Upshaw's] voice cries out for heavenly song."
News Local: "The Holberg is part of the ACO’s standard repertoire and they have recorded it before. But this is a refreshing revisiting of a well-loved favourite which was inspired partly by Baroque dances and partly by Norwegian folk traditions."
Sydney Morning Herald: "(Greig's Holberg Suite) gets a full, lush, romantic rendering in this attractive version by the Australian Chamber Orchestra, at once passionate yet delicate, committed yet sensitive."
The Washington Times: "[Maria Schneider’s Winter Morning Walks] is poignant, touching, sometimes humorous.”
