Richard Tognetti directs Beethoven's Symphony No.1, Coriolan–Overture and Triple Concerto plus new work, Water, by Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood. JONNY GREENWOOD Water [AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE] BEETHOVEN Coriolan – Overture BEETHOVEN Symphony No.1 BEETHOVEN Triple Concerto Richard Tognetti Director & Violin Timo-Veikko Valve Cello Yevgeny Sudbin Piano Australian Chamber Orchestra The Australian Chamber Orchestra’s recent Beethoven concerts have been reviewed with enormous enthusiasm: “[ACO] play particularly well when the fire is in their belly, and nobody puts it there like Beethoven.” (Sydney Morning Herald) This concert features three bold Beethoven works: his majestic first foray into symphonic writing, the stormy and drama-filled Coriolan–Overture and his Triple Concerto, featuring playful dynamism between Richard Tognetti, ACO principal cellist Timo-Veikko Valve and emotionally expansive Russian pianist Yevgeny Sudbin. Water, the long-awaited new piece by acclaimed musician Jonny Greenwood is given its Australian premiere. Following Greenwood’s latest international tour with legendary band Radiohead, he joined the ACO in the studio writing a new work especially for the Orchestra. One of the world’s greatest guitarists, Greenwood also writes powerful orchestral music. He composed the award winning film score for There Will Be Blood, was composer-in-residence with the BBC Concert Orchestra and has written scores for films The Master, Norwegian Wood and We Need to Talk About Kevin. http://www.aco.com.au/whats_on/event_detail/tognetti-beethoven The Telegraph, UK "Any chance to hear Yevgeny Sudbin should be snapped up." Sydney Morning Herald "ACO play particularly well when the fire is in their belly, and nobody puts it there like Beethoven." Gramophone "Sudbin exhibits an infectious hunger for his repertoire...Thrilling." Limelight Magazine "[Timo-Veikko Valve's] technical command of a magnificent Guarneri instrument allowed a wider range of dynamics, enabling him to unlock more imaginative possibilities from the notes on the page...his awareness of sonority within the ambient space allowing vividly shaped phrases to hang in the air...This was deeply expressive playing."
