The double yellow-headed Amazon is an intelligent, affectionate parrot with vibrant colors and great speech ability. They love attention and are best for experienced bird owners, as they can be playful and test boundaries. These birds have been popular pets for centuries and are now mostly captive-bred due to declining wild numbers.
They need a large cage (8x4x4 ft) with perches, toys, and a covered area for comfort. DYHs are social and can become aggressive or destructive if left alone too long, but they’re easy to train and love to entertain.
Feed them a varied diet of pellets or seeds, along with fresh fruits and veggies—avoid chocolate and avocado. Daily cage cleaning, fresh food and water, regular bathing, feather clipping, and monthly nail trims are key.
